How do I get tutoring?

The primary way to take advantage of our tutoring services is to simply drop in! We publish our schedule weekly here on the website and send it out to students via email every week. Simply look at the schedule identify the appropriate session/s, and stop by at any time during that window. Students do not need to arrive at the beginning of a session and don’t need to stay for the entire time. Students do not need to make a formal request or sign up in advance.

If you can't find a scheduled group session that fits your needs and interests, please contact us using our 2017 Student Tutoring Request Form and tell us more about what you're looking for. We'll reach out to you directly to see how we can help.

Check out the tutoring schedule now! Put us in your calendar so that you don't miss an opportunity for assistance.

What kind of tutoring does the Summer Tutor Program offer?

The STP offers various types of tutoring: subject-specific drop-in sessions, workshops, and individual tutoring. Click here for this week’s drop-in tutoring and workshop schedule.

Drop-in Tutoring Sessions

Drop-in tutoring at the Summer Academic Resource Center is focused on the summer quarter curriculum.  The schedule for these sessions is updated every Sunday and students may "drop-in" to any session at any time. We provide support for most summer courses, but if you cannot find a drop-in session that meets your needs, please submit the 2017 Student Tutoring Request Form. If we don’t have a tutor in your particular area, we can refer you to resources on campus.

Individual Tutoring Sessions and Language Conversation Partners

If we don't have a group session that fits your needs and interests, individual tutoring may be possible.

Additionally, if you are looking for help with a specific language course, it may be possible to match you with a language conversation tutor. These are individual, one-on-one conversation sessions where you can practice speaking in the language you are learning. Please note that only students enrolled in the following courses are eligible for one-on-one language tutoring: SPANLANG 1A, 2A, 15S; FRENLANG 1A, 2A, 15S, 120S.

Please contact us using the 2017 Student Tutoring Request Form to see how we can best help you.

Why does the Summer Tutor Program focus on Group Tutoring?

Quite simply: Because it works! Study after study shows that the majority of students learn best through group learning. Years of experience has also shown us that most students in Summer Quarter receive the greatest benefit from group tutoring and group study sessions. Don’t worry, though. Your tutors will advise you if they think you could benefit from some one-on-one time as well.

Our goal is to help you perform at your best while at Stanford!

Does the STP offer language tutoring?

Yes, the STP offers Language Conversation Tutoring for those enrolled in language courses during the Summer quarter. Though offerings vary depending upon tutor availability, in the past the following languages have been offered: German, Chinese, French, and Spanish.

*Note: The STP does not offer SAT, ACT, GRE, or other standardized test tutoring. STP’s mission is to serve the Summer quarter curriculum in Stanford’s Summer Quarter.
